Licensing Act 2003: Review of Statement of Licensing Policy |
The Chief Solicitor reminded Members that the Council was required to review its Statement of Licensing Policy every three years. At the last meeting of the Committee, a revised version of the policy had been approved for consultation purposes. The Chief Solicitor reported that the only representations made during the consultation period had been from the Director of Health and Housing, recommending that reference be made to certain publications relating to safety standards at outdoor events. Members agreed that this was a sensible amendment to be made. RECOMMENDED: That the revised Statement of Licensing Policy, as amended following the consultation exercise, be adopted. *Referred to Council |

Saving Lives - Not Stopping People Living - A Health and Safety Executive and Local Government Association Initiative |
The Director of Health and Housing reported on a new initiative aimed at ensuring sensible risk management of safety problems promoted by the Local Government Association (LGA) and the Health and Safety Executive to support councils in taking a sensible line when identifying safety risks. At a recent LGA national conference, a "sign-up to sensible risk" campaign had been launched, asking local authorities to sign up to "Principles of Sensible Risk Management". This commitment would give a clear message to both staff and citizens as to the sensible approach to risk they expected to be taken. The Director of Health and Housing supported this initiative. RESOLVED: That support for this initiative be endorsed. |
