MATTERS FOR RECOMMENDATION TO THE COUNCIL
LA 07/007 Vehicles (Crime) Act 2001: Licensing of Motor Salvage Operators
The Chief Solicitor reported that this Council was responsible under the Vehicles (Crime) Act 2001 for licensing motor salvage operators. As in the rest of the County, this function had been discharged by Kent County Council Trading Standards under an agency agreement made under section 101 of the Local Government Act 1972. It was now necessary to renew this agreement and it was proposed that this should be for the lifetime of the legislation rather than for a defined period. The Chief Solicitor also submitted an annual report from Trading Standards, showing licensing activity for the previous year.

RECOMMENDED: That the Council's agency agreement with Kent County Council under section 101 of the Local Government Act 1972 in respect of the licensing of motor salvage operators under the Vehicles (Crime) Act 2001 be continued for the lifetime of the legislation.

MATTERS SUBMITTED FOR INFORMATION
LA 07/008 Changes to Taxi Legislation in the Road Safety Act 2006
The Chief Solicitor reported that the Road Safety Act 2006 made two changes to taxi legislation. The first enabled the suspension or revocation of a taxi driver's licence to be given immediate effect, rather than having to wait for the appeal period to expire. The second was to revoke the exemption from licensing for vehicles let under a contract lasting seven days or more. Members welcomed these changes to the legislation.

RESOLVED: That the report be received and noted.
