DECISIONS TAKEN UNDER DELEGATED POWERS IN ACCORDANCE WITH PARAGRAPH 3 (OR 2), PART 3 OF THE CONSTITUTION
LA 08/008 Application for Increase in Table of Maximum Hackney Carriage Fares
The Chief Solicitor reported that an application had been received from Mr T Hill of Castle Cars, supported by a number of other taxi proprietors and drivers, for an increase in the tariff of maximum hackney carriage fares. His application was to reduce the distance for the "flag down" rate from 1.6 km to 1.281 km rate and the distance for subsequent units of distance from 161 metres to 145.6 metres. He also asked for the introduction of a "time and distance" tariff. An application had been received from Mr P Hobday to treat Easter Sunday as a public holiday like Christmas Day. Members recognised that there had been a considerable increase in operating costs since they last approved an increase to the table of fares. They also noted that there would be an increase in licence fees from April 2008.

RESOLVED: That

(1) the current table of maximum fares be amended by reducing the distance for the "flag down" rate from 1.6 km to 1.281 km rate and the distance for subsequent units of distance from 161 metres to 145.6 metres;

(2) "time and distance" fares be not introduced; and

(3) fares on Easter Sunday be treated the same way as fares on Christmas Day.

LA 08/009 Arrangements for Panel Hearings
Following the issue being raised at a meeting of the Panel, the Chief Solicitor reported that, as requested, he had looked into whether the administrative arrangements for hearings into disciplinary cases could be modified to remove the ability of the person concerned to ask for a different date. He reported that this was possible and that he had now implemented these arrangements.

RESOLVED: That the report be received and noted.
