2008 Coach of the Year Award

Minutes

The report advised that nominations for the 2008 Coach of the Year Award had been considered by the Award Panel which had recommended that the award be made to Steve Farr for his achievements in the development of rugby within the Borough. The report also brought forward recommendations from the Panel to make a Lifetime Achievement Award to athletics coach Mike Rowbottom and to award a special commendation to 17 year old football coach, Joshua Sloane for his work with young footballers with special needs. The Chief Leisure Officer was asked to investigate whether the Lifetime Achievement Award could be awarded on an annual basis.

Following consideration by the Leisure and Arts Advisory Board, the Cabinet Member for Leisure, Youth and Arts resolved that:
1) the 2008 Coach of the Year Award be made to Steve Farr for his achievements in the development of rugby union;
2) a Lifetime Achievement Award for coaching be made to Mike Rowbottom for his contribution to the development of athletics;
3) a Special Commendation be made to Joshua Sloane for his contribution to the development of junior football; and
4) the awards be presented at the Sports and Arts Revenue Grants presentation evening.

Reasons: As set out in the report submitted to the Leisure and Arts Advisory Board of 17 March 2008.
