ItemDescriptionResolution
PART 1 - PUBLIC
MATTERS FOR RECOMMENDATION TO THE COUNCIL
GP 06/029 Age Discrimination Regulations

The Central Services Director advised Members that the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006 would come into force on 1 October 2006 and would implement the age related provisions of the European Directive (2000). His report highlighted the implications of the establishment of a national "default retirement age" of 65 years for the Council's Retirement Policy. The report also highlighted the effect the new regulations would have on the Council's compensation policy in respect of early retirement or redundancy and details of the amendments required to the Employment Stability Policy were set out in the report.

RECOMMENDED: That

(1) the Retirement Policy and Planned Retirement Procedure set out in Annex 1 of the report be adopted; and

(2) Section 6 of the Employment Stability Policy, as amended in the report, be adopted subject to the final version of the Age Discrimination Regulations not requiring it to be further amended.
