Admittance of Honorary Freemen

To consider a Notice of Motion pursuant to Council Procedure Rule No 5.18 submitted jointly by Councillors Mrs J Anderson, M Balfour, M Coffin, N Heslop, Mrs F Kemp, R Lancaster, Mrs A Oakley and A Sullivan:

 

1)         That in recognition of her eminent services to the Borough of Tonbridge and Malling, Mrs Susan Murray be admitted as an Honorary Freeman of the Borough pursuant to Section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1972.

 

2)         That in recognition of her eminent services to the Borough of Tonbridge and Malling, Mrs Elizabeth Simpson be admitted as an Honorary Freeman of the Borough pursuant to Section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1972.

 

3)         That in pursuance of Section 249(9) of the Local Government Act 1972, expenditure be authorised to enable an address to be presented to each of the Honorary Freemen of the Borough referred to in (1) and (2) above.

Minutes:

Consideration was given to a Notice of Motion pursuant to Council Procedure Rule No 5.18 and submitted jointly by Councillors Mrs J Anderson, M Balfour, M Coffin, N Heslop, Mrs F Kemp, R Lancaster, Mrs A Oakley and A Sullivan that the title of Honorary Freeman be conferred upon Mrs Susan Murray and Mrs Elizabeth Simpson in accordance with Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972.

 

It was proposed by Councillor N Heslop, seconded by Councillor Mrs A Oakley and

 

RESOLVED: That

 

(1)        in recognition of her eminent services to the Borough of Tonbridge and Malling, Mrs Susan Murray be admitted as an Honorary Freeman of the Borough pursuant to Section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1972;

 

(2)        in recognition of her eminent services to the Borough of Tonbridge and Malling, Mrs Elizabeth Simpson be admitted as an Honorary Freeman of the Borough pursuant to Section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1972; and

 

(3)        in pursuance of Section 249(9) of the Local Government Act 1972, expenditure be authorised to enable an address to be presented to each of the Honorary Freemen of the Borough referred to in (1) and (2) above. 


[In accordance with Council and Committee Procedure Rule 8.6, Councillor M Taylor requested that his vote against the motion be recorded.]

Sealing of Documents

To authorise the Common Seal of the Council to be affixed to any Contract, Minute, Notice or other document requiring the same.

Minutes:

RESOLVED:  That authority be given for the Common Seal of the Council to be affixed to any instrument to give effect to a decision of the Council incorporated into these Minutes and proceedings.
