Local Air Quality Regime Consultation

26/02/2016 - Local Air Quality Regime Consultation

(Report of Director of Planning, Housing and Environmental Health)

The report summarised a response submitted to the last part of a three stage consultation by DEFRA on the review of the Local Air Quality Management (LAQM) regime.  The document invited views on Government measures to improve LAQM delivery including seven proposed changes to the framework.  The Annex to the report contained answers to the questions posed in the consultation.  Particular concern was expressed that the consultation proposed responsibility for and resource implications of addressing PM2.5 (small particulate material) pollution be shifted from DEFRA to local authorities despite a lack of statutory status.

Following consideration by the Housing and Environment Services Advisory Board, the Cabinet Member for Housing and Environment Services resolved that the comments submitted by officers to DEFRA in response to the third stage consultation on the LAQM regime, as set out at Annex 1 to the report, be endorsed.
